CAIRO — Last week’s meeting of the Grady County Growth, Marketing and Development Committee was a success, said June Knight, the group’s chair.
A subcommittee tasked with identifying attractions in Grady County compiled a list of 40 locations and events May 18 that could be labeled “attractions,” including Tired Creek Lake, Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve, Pope’s Store Museum and Mule Day, among others.
“I did not realize we had so many items that could draw people to Grady County,” Knight said at last week’s meeting of the Grady County Board of Commissioners.
Subcommittee members also compared Grady County’s assets to those of neighboring Thomas County by reviewing a list of assets the latter county had compiled ranked by their value.
“Our first 10 would beat their first 10,” Knight said. “We had so many things that are so much better.”
Knight said she was “really surprised” by how much she has learned about Grady County through the committee, which was formed in February to create a unified vision for how the county should market itself and Tired Creek Lake. The committee has until July 1 to formulate a plan that will be submitted to the Grady County Lake Authority.
The committee will next meet at the Grady County Agri-Center on Monday, June 8 at 9 a.m. to review the assets compiled by the subcommittee. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
“Everybody is invited,” said County Administrator Buddy Johnson. “Come sit down and be a part of it.”
