Commissioner questions value of lake consultant

CAIRO — Grady County commissioners may reconsider their contract with Tired Creek Lake consultant Will Butler after a series of comments made earlier this week by Commissioner June Knight.
Knight said near the end of Tuesday morning’s commission meeting that she wished to revisit the topic of Butler’s services with the county. Knight argued that money already budgeted for Butler this year could instead be put toward what she says are a more valuable purposes, such as purchasing rocks or picnic tables or placing portable restrooms at the lake for events.
The commissioner said she thought it was an “embarrassment” that there were no restroom options at the lake for a high school fishing tournament last month.
While noting that she believes Butler helped put an end to a series of legal challenges to the lake from Leon County last year, Knight said there’s been little to show from the consultant since then.
Commission Chairman Keith Moye requested that County Administrator Buddy Johnson set up a meeting with Butler at a later date to discuss the subject.
