CAIRO- Kylan Nayshawn James has been arrested and charged with the involuntary manslaughter of a juvenile.
On November 19, 2023 at approximately 5:52 p.m., officers of the Cairo Police Department were dispatched to 1141 4th Avenue SW, in reference to a shooting. While in route, officers were notified by dispatch that a female victim had been shot and was being transported to the Grady General Hospital ER. While in the care of the ER, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
Officers worked around the clock to seek justice for the victim, first speaking with the complaining witness.
The witness, who is also a juvenile, advised she and the victim were sitting on the couch, when the victim was shot by James.
The witness went on to say that she and the victim were play fighting when she saw James pull out a gun, handing it off to the victim at some point, before retrieving it and later shooting the victim.
Reportedly, James did not know the gun was loaded. James immediately left the scene, while the witness put the victim in a vehicle to transport her to the ER.
Warrants were obtained by CPD against James for the offenses of involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18 and reckless conduct.
