CAIRO — Two new patrol officers are slated to begin work with the Cairo Police Department this week.
New officers Jermaine Lamons and Clarence Williams are ready to get to work after completing their 11-week training at the Georgia Police Academy late last week.
Both men were sworn into the Cairo Police Department over the weekend and have received their badges.
Lamons said he was grateful to be in Cairo, which he noted at Monday’s meeting of the Cairo City Council is known as the “City of Hospitality.”
“I look forward to receiving that hospitality and also giving that hospitality to our citizens and one another,” he said.
Williams offered a similar sentiment.
“It’s an honor to work, serve and protect the streets of Cairo,” he told council members.
City council members offered their congratulations to both men Monday night.
Police Chief Giovannie Santos said the two officers will begin patrolling the streets of Cairo on Wednesday.
