Robinson surprised at scholarship offer

THOMASVILLE — Kelsey Robinson hasn’t been dancing for long.
It’s already paid her a tremendous dividend.
The Thomasville High School student received a $64,000 scholarship to LaRoche University, one of several scholarships awarded by acclaimed dancer Maria Caruso. Caruso was in Thomasville and Cairo last week to conduct master classes.
After her dance class, Robinson was told her dance teacher needed to see her.
“Am in I trouble?” she wondered.
When she got there, she found out they wanted to offer her a scholarship.
“All I could do was cry,” Robinson said. “I was just so surprised. I didn’t know what to do. It was so overwhelming.”
“I am so thrilled,” Caruso said of announcing the scholarships.
Caruso acknowledged she got a late start in dance. Robinson only started about a couple of years ago as well.
“So for her to notice me and say she wanted me to offer a scholarship made me feel good about myself,” Robinson said.
Caruso also performed her dance “Metamorphosis” for students of the week Saturday evening.
