COVID-19 cases continue to rise

As of Monday, more than 21,960 Thomas County residents, 49% of the population, have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the state Department of Public Health. More than 54,040 doses of vaccine have been administered to Thomas County residents, according to the state Department of Public Health. In all, 38% of Thomas County residents have received full vaccination and an additional dose. 

Grady County has had more than 25,930 vaccines administered, with more than 10,750 people, 43% of the population, being fully vaccinated. According to the state DPH, 34% of Grady County residents are fully vaccinated and have received an additional dose.

The state Department of Public Health reports there have been 7,399 COVID-19 positive tests in Thomas County, with 165 deaths. There also have been 560 people hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus since the inception of the outbreak. 

Thomas County has recorded 1.023 new cases in the last two weeks, according to the state DPH. 

The state DPH has recorded 3,025 COVID-19 cases in Grady County, with 70 deaths and 250 hospitalizations attributed to the virus. The county has added 453 new cases in the last two weeks. 

Statewide, there have been more than 1.66 million confirmed positive tests for COVID-19, leading to 26,800 deaths and more than 99,500 hospitalizations.

More than 15.1million people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, with a rate of 11.9% for positive results. 

Statewide, there have been 205,160 new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks. 

The state has issued more than 13.83 million vaccinations, and 54% of all Georgia residents, more than 5.59 million people, have been fully vaccinated.

Thomasville City Schools reported that as of January 14, there were 38 COVID-19 positive students out of 2,788 enrolled. There were 384 students identified as contacts due to school exposure, and 89 identified as a contact due to exposure outside of school. Thirteen of the 376 employees were listed as COVID-19 positive. Thirteen employees were identified as contacts due to school exposure and five had been identified as a contact from outside exposure.

Grady County Schools reported having 117 students with a positive COVID-19 test out of 4,472 total students as of January 14. Another 318 were quarantined for possible exposure. Thirty-two of the 638 school employees had a positive COVID-19 test and 15 were quarantined.

Thomas County Schools reported 180 COVID-19 positive students out of an enrollment of 5,758. The system also reported having 57 staff members out of 874 test positive for COVID-19.
