City OKs audit expense, lease golf carts

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville City Council approved expenditures for an audit and leasing of golf carts, along with approval of a resolution involving signatures, at its meeting Monday.
The council also authorized the mayor to execute two sales agreements for the city’s excess electric generation capacity.
The first agreement, between the City of Thomasville, City of Grantville and MEAG (Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia) Power, authorized MEAG Power, on behalf of the City of Thomasville, to sell 855 kW of excess reserve capacity to the City of Grantville for 12 months, beginning Jan. 1, 2017.
The second agreement, between the City of Thomasville, City of Acworth and MEAG Power, authorized MEAG Power, on behalf of the City of Thomasville, to sell 5,423 kW of excess reserve capacity to the City of Acworth for 12 months, beginning Jan. 1, 2017.
The sale prices for both agreements was for $2 per kW-year.
“These agreements are intended to allow MEAG Power members to share electric generation capacity between members with excess capacity, such as Thomasville, with members that need additional electric generation capacity, such as Grantville or Acworth,” Steve Sykes, city manager, explained.
The council also voted to:
• Pay Lanigan & Associates, P.C. $101,500 for an audit of city government agencies.
• Sign a 50-month lease for a new fleet of EZGO electric golf carts and two EZGO gas utility golf carts for Country Oaks Golf Course. The cost would be $68.48 per cart/per month for electric carts and $102 per month/per cart for gas carts.
• Approved a resolution authorizing Steve Sykes, city manager, and Michelle Juarez, city chief financial officer, to communicate city decisions by jointly signing written directions to MEAG Power.
