THOMASVILLE — Loud music from a vehicle resulted in a foot chase, a drug discovery and a trip to the Thomas County Jail.

A Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputy responding to a loud-music complaint on Allison Lane off Oak Hill Road found that the music was coming from a black Dodge truck. Martin Lamar Garland, 27, Thomasville, was sitting in the truck.

“The deputy found out Garland had Cook County warrants out for his arrest,” Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander, said.

Garland ran when the officer told him he was under arrest. The deputy and narcotics agents searched for the suspect.

“People in the neighborhood said he ran back to his house,” Schofill said.

Garland was taken into custody.

A search of the truck produced 42 grams of marijuana and 10 grams of ice methamphetamine, both packaged for sale. Narcotics agents also found 45 Tramadol pills, a prescription painkiller.

Schofill said some of the drugs were found in the cab of the truck and others in the truck bed.

Garland is charged with methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute, marijuana possession with intent to distribute, obstruction by fleeing and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.

The suspect is being held at the Thomas County Jail.
