THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville volleyball team is set to host their first-round state playoff matchup against Mitchell County.
“We are excited,” said Thomasville head volleyball coach Jackie King. “I’m super excited and just can’t wait to light a fire under them because I feel like we are so capable of going far.”
Thomasville got a very good draw for the first round of the playoffs. They face Mitchell County, a team that the Lady Bulldogs beat just two weeks ago in the regular season. Thomasville handled the Lady Eagles easily on October 2, allowing just 16 points in the match and just five in the final set. Thomasville won the match in two sets.
“I do,” said King when asked if playing a team you’ve beaten already gives her team confidence. “But I want to make sure that my girls remember that we play to our capability every time. That’s been kind of one of our mantras is to play to our level and still give our best every time no matter who the team is. Whether it’s a team that we feel like we can beat or we can’t beat either way, we are going to play to the level of our capacity as a team.”
Thomasville had an excellent season this year. Just one season after going 4-21, this veteran team went 15-7 overall and was undefeated in their region. They dominated region play, never losing a set to a region foe and cruising to a region title.
Thomasville will face Mitchell County at home for the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday with the game slated for 5:30 p.m.
