James Franklin Baker

James Franklin Baker, 73, of Vicksburg, Miss., died June 7, 2004 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. A native of Thomasville, he was a retired auto mechanic, served in the U.S. Air Force in Occupied Germany, member of First Christian Faith Church and worked at Frontier Package Store. He is survived by his mother, Lois Hayes Baker of Moultrie; siblings, Geraldine Dueitt of Moultrie, Roy T. Baker Jr. of Auburndale, Fla.; children, Ann Jarrell, Dennis Baker, Howard Baker all of Thomasville, Carlos Baker Sr. of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy T. Baker Sr.; and a brother, Eugene Baker. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Marvin Cecil Barrineau

Services for Marvin Cecil Barrineau, 87, Cairo, are at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Providence Baptist Church in Whigham. The Rev. Douglas Halstead and the Rev. Robert Crapps will officiate and interment is in Providence Cemetery in Whigham. Active pallbearers are Matt Miller, Shawn Faircloth, Stacey Faircloth, Ricky Cooper, Andy Barrineau and David Williams. Honorary pallbearers are men of Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Barrineau died June 8 at his residence. Born Feb. 14, 1917 in Grady County, he was a son of the late Hardy K. and Virgie Bowen Barrineau. On March 13, 1937, he married Marie Anderson Barrineau of Cairo. He was retired from Bates and Associates, member of Providence Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of this area. Survivors include his wife, Marie Anderson Barrineau of Cairo; daughters, Claudia B. Johnson of Cairo, Sarah B. Barwick of Cairo, Diane B. Faircloth of Panama City, Fla.; son, Leland Barrineau of Cairo; sister, Emma Lou Bruce of Tallahassee, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Barrineau; grandchildren, Timmy Cooper, James Glenn Barwick; great-grandchild, Tyler Glenn Davis; parents; sisters, Ernestine Ulmer and Rena Barrineau; brothers, James Barrineau, Elmer Barrineau and Emory Barrineau. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. — Clark Funeral Home



Alfred Green Robinson III

Dr. A. G. “Robby” Robinson was born in Thomasville, Ga. on Feb. 19, 1928. He died on May 22, 2004 in Houston, Texas. Dr. Robinson was predeceased by his parents, Alfred Green Robinson Jr. and Frances Wright Robinson; his brother, Bryan Wright Robinson; and his sister, Winn Robinson Smith. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kate Haywood Robinson; his children, Sarah Robinson Flick and her husband Robert, Kate Robinson Casey, Grace Robinson Chan, and Frances Robinson Eldreth and her husband Richard; grandchildren, Laura Chan, Tyler Chan, Anna Eldreth, Bryan Eldreth, and Katie Flick. Dr. Robinson attended public schools in Thomasville. He received B.S., M.S., and PhD degrees in chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He was employed by Hercules Powder Company, Tennessee Eastman Company, and Texas Eastman Company. He retired after 38 years of service as a vice president and director of research and development of Texas Eastman. Dr. Robinson was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and church school teacher. He was a member of the Longview Symphony League, the History Club of East Texas, Friends of the Library, and a supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Dr. Robinson was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed tennis, chess, short-wave radio, and baseball. He especially loved the memories of time spent over the years with his wife and family in Destin, Florida. He was a friend to many people of all ages and from all walks of life. He viewed all situations with a positive outlook and looked for the best in everything and everyone. He always found it. He often said that “Freedom is the most important word in the English language.” He deeply loved his God, his wife and family, and his community. He leaves a legacy of faith and integrity that comforts us and will continue to guide us into the future. Memorial services were held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Longview, Texas at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, with the Rev. Dr. W. D. O’Neal, the Rev. Scott Hookey and the Rev.
