Thursday

10 a.m. — Golden K Kiwanis Club meets at Dawson Street Baptist Church.

12:15 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

2 p.m. — The Thomasville-Thomas County Retired Educators Association regular monthly meeting is at the Thomas County Public Library. This is the first meeting of the year and all retired educators should attend. The motto for the year is Busy as a Bee — Bee Enthusiastic, Bee Energetic, Bee Excited — Bee GREA. The group is also collecting soda can tabs to donate to the Shriners for disabled children and extra change to go toward local scholarships. Major Eric Hampton of the Thomasville Police Department will discuss crime preventioin. Group I is responsible for refreshments and door prize.

5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.

6 p.m. — Cairo New Beginnings Group of Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 11th Ave. N.W., Cairo. For information, call Aileen at 378-0341 or Brenda at 377-4995.

12:30 p.m. — Thomasville Kiwanis Club meets at the Plaza Restaurant.

Saturday

10:30 a.m. — South Georgia Genealogy Society meets at the Thomas County Public Library. The program begins at 11 with updates from the National Genealogical Society Convention presented by Doris Davies. The meeting is open to the public.

10:30 a.m. — The Hagan family reunion is at the Barwick Community House in Barwick. Bring your favorite covered dish and dessert. For information, call 859-2093 or 200-4713.

7 p.m. — Omega Psi Phi Mu Beta Beta chapter is holding its 31st annual high school talent hunt program at Michael Ray Owens FIne Arts Auditorium, 200 N. Pinetree Bvd. There is no charge for the event and is open to the public.

Sunday

All day — Georgia Theatre Company is holding its annual Cinema for a Cause to benefit the United Way of Thomas County. All proceeds of tickets and concession sales will benefit the 18 UW agencies.

Monday

6:30 p.m. — The Thomasville Shrine Club is holding its regular monthly meeting at the Shrine Club building on U.S. 19 South. A covered dish dinner follows fellowship at 7. A program is planned. All members are urged to attend and bring prospective members and guests. Thomasville Shrine Club is a member of Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany.

Tuesday

6 p.m. — Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in the Guild Room. There are no dues or fees and is open to men and women. For information, call 226-0556 or 377-4995.

Miscellaneous

The descedants of the late Tomsil Maxwell and Robert Heywood Gainey are holding a reunion on Sept. 27 at the Reno Community Center. There will be a picnic lunch.

The CASA Kids Program is recruiting volunteers interested in becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused children that enter the juveninle court systems in Thomas and Brooks counties. The next training begins in October. For information, call 225-4338.

There will be a cemetery cleaning at Turner Primitive Baptist Church at 8 a.m., Oct. 4. Everyone should bring eding, weeding and mowing equipment. The cemetery is located in the eastern edge of Tift County off Ferry Lake Road and 3.5 miles north of Enigma on Turner Church Road.

At noon, on Wednesday is big book study and Friday is open discussion both at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The Rose City Coin Club meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Thomas County Public Library.

The Rose City Symphonic Band rehearses from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays at the Thomas County Middle School band room. Membership is open to any musician 16 and older that plays a band instrument. The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month at the Plaza. The Country Hoedown, formerly known as The Meigs Country Hoedown, is at the corner of Sapp and Burnum (Mt.
