Christmas in Thomasville kicks off November 24th

THOMASVILLE- The holiday season in Downtown Thomasville is truly special. The twinkling lights, sparkling window displays, and delicious smells coming from local restaurants all contribute to the festive atmosphere. The City of Thomasville invites the public to make it their shopping and dining destination this holiday season and to spend Christmas in Thomasville.

Many events will be hosted throughout Thomasville, with the kickoff event being Holiday Open House on November 24 from 1 to 5 p.m., where friends and families can create lasting memories. The festivities don’t stop there—additional exciting events will unfold throughout mid-December, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the unique charm and warmth of Thomasville during the holidays. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to celebrate together!

“Holiday Open House is the ultimate event to discover the charm of our Downtown, explore unique shops, and savor our renowned restaurants,” said Brandy Avery, Main Street Director. “It’s your perfect chance to kick off your Christmas shopping while supporting local businesses and experiencing the wonderful offerings of Thomasville.”

Attendees can enjoy a walk along the brick streets while listening to festive holiday music and enjoy free trolley rides. Downtown shops and restaurants will be open, ready to spread holiday cheer. Guests can enter to win Downtown Dollars by visiting information booths. For every $20 spent during the event, customers will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win $100 in Downtown Dollars.

After the Holiday Open House, mark the calendar for Black Friday on November 29 and Small Business Saturday on November 30, where local shops and restaurants will welcome customers with open arms and fantastic deals. “Thanksgiving weekend is one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year,” said Cassidee Brooks, Special Events Coordinator. “Black Friday and Small Business Saturday emphasize the importance of supporting our small businesses and shopping locally to boost our community’s economy.”

Experience the charm of Downtown Thomasville this season, as extended shopping hours return! On Sundays from December 8 to December 22, many shops will be open so shoppers can get everything checked off their Christmas lists. The final First Friday Sip and Shop of the year is set for December 6 featuring more shopping opportunities along with a free concert, delightful sidewalk entertainment, and memorable photo opportunities amidst stunning holiday displays.

On December 13 and 14, the 38th annual Victorian Christmas will transform Thomasville into a winter wonderland! Join in the fun with entertainment, a live nativity scene, delectable food vendors, horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with St Nick, and, by popular demand, the return of snow!

“There’s nothing more enchanting at Christmas than taking your children to meet St. Nick,” said Avery. “Events like these create unforgettable memories for families while showcasing the beauty of Thomasville during the holiday season. These special moments are cherished for a lifetime!”

Victorian outfits can be rented from the Thomasville Visitors Center to fully embrace the holiday spirit—costumes are just $10 with a $25 refundable deposit, available for rental from November 25 to December 7.

“Wearing a Victorian costume during the holidays allows you to step back in time when Thomasville was the Winter Resort of the South,” said Brooks. “We have outfits available for everyone, from men’s top hats and bow ties to beautifully detailed dresses for women, making this a delightful tradition for all ages.”
