Deadline soon for Christmas parade
Officials of the Cairo-Grady Chamber of Commerce remind everyone who is interested in having an entry in the Cairo Christmas Parade that the deadline for applications is Friday.
The theme for this year’s parade is ‘Cairo’s Night of Twinkling Lights” and will feature a variety of entries from local schools, churches, businesses and civic groups.
The application for the parade, commentary about your entry, signed agreement and liability disclaimer must be returned to the chamber in order to participate in the parade.
This year’s parade will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 starting at 7 p.m.

Cairo High FFA holds fruit sale
The Cairo High School FFA members are currently selling fruit and Washington apples for the holidays. All fruit is certified U.S. No. 1 and comes packed in 4/5 bushel boxes weighing 40-42 pounds.
Funds raised by the fruit sale will be used for FFA projects and activities.
To purchase the fruit, contact any FFA member or call the Vo Ag Department at Cairo High school at 377-6217.
Women of Virtue meet this week
The Women of Virtue Conference is Thursday through Saturday at the Redeeming Life Fellowship Church located on Ga. Hwy. 188.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Raising the Standard, time for Elevation.’ The host and guest speaker for the conference is Apostle Dwan Jackson.
Additional speakers include Apostle Alfred Jackson, Apostle Lloyd Benson, Sr., Apostle G. Sherman and Sister Sherita Wallace. The Thursday service begins at 7 p.m., Thursday services are at noon and 7 p.m. with a 10 a.m. workshop; services on Sunday will start at 10 a.m.

Chicken pilau benefits fund
The Centennial Community Cemetery Fund will be having an old fashioned wash pot chicken pilau on Saturday at 3788 Hadley Ferry Rd. in southern Grady County.
There will be singing from 3 to 6 p.m. and the pilau will be served from 4 to 6 p.m.
The cost is $8 per plate.
Remember to come early, stay late and bring your lawn chair.
Notary public training planned
Debbie Kines, the Clerk of Superior Court of Grady County and the Georgia Superior Courts Clerks Cooperative Authority will be offering a free notary public training on Nov. 19 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the courtroom on the second floor of the Grady County Courthouse.
The workshop is open to the public and is highly recommended to anyone who is a notary or is considering becoming a notary.

Keffers in concert on Sunday night
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church will be featuring The Keffers in concert on Sunday.
The group will perform on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and again on Sunday evening at 6. Everyone is invited to come hear this great day of Southern gospel music.
Fish fry to benefit Clifford Bell
There will be a benefit fish fry to help with the medical expenses of Clifford Bell on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the home of Bobby and Jean Mitchell, located behind Burger King in Cairo.
The fish fry will feature mullet and catfish plates with all the trimmings for $8 per plate. Plates can be picked up from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Sing features
the Williamsons
Vineyard Ministries, located 2189 Hwy. 84 East in Cairo, will be having a gospel sing featuring The Williamsons at 7 p.m., Saturday.
The Williamsons are one of the most popular gospel groups in the U.S. and tour extensively, ministering in churches, rallies, revivals and concerts across North America. A love offering will be received during the service.
Photos sought for holiday program
The Syrup City Players are seeking old family photos of Christmas in Cairo to use as part of this year’s Cairo Christmas Follies on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6.
The pictures should feature your favorite Christmas memories and can be mailed to Jeff Lovett at jeff@wgra.net.
