Services for Sarah Dunbar Perkins are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Willow Head Missionary Baptist Church, 615 E. Calhoun St., Thomasville. The Rev. William Brinson, pastor, the Rev. Emory H. Hopkins officiating. Burial follows in Springhill M.B. Church Cemetery, Hall Road, Thomasville. Mrs. Perkins died Sunday, Aug. 24 at her residence. Born Jan. 21, 1938, in Thomasville, she was the daughter of Ida Mae Dunbar and Charlie Dunbar Sr. As a youth, Sarah gave her life to Christ and became a member of Bethlehem Christian Methodist Episcopal where she joined the choir. As an adult, she joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church where she joined the senior choir, was a member of the Deaconess Board and was the former president of the Senior Mission. She graduated from Douglass High School in 1957. She was employed by Flowers Bakery where her baking career began. She also worked at Textron where she inspected airplane parts, was a housekeeper for RYDC and a driver for Transit. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Floyd Perkins of Thomasville; children, Sharon D. Bussey (Pernell), Alphonso L. Dunbar of Thomasville, Kelvin J. Perkins (Jacqueline) of Fayetteville, N.C.; siblings, Jessie Robinson, Samuel Dunbar, Mary Virgil (Leo), Clifford Dunbar (Gladys), Joseph Dunbar (Clara), Henry Dunbar (Jacqueline), Roscoe Dunbar (Gina) all of Thomasville, Ida Mae Mack (William) of Freeport, N.Y., Hattie Johnson (Jake) of Albany, Chris Fowler (Henry) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; godson, Edward Robinson of Thomasville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Charlie Dunbar Sr.; brother, Charlie Dunbar Jr.; and son, Melvin T. Perkins. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 2 p.m., Saturday at 228 5th Ave., Thomasville for the processional. The viewing is from 1 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home. — Hadley’s Funeral Home
