JENNINGS, Mo. — Police are looking for leads after an altercation over cold pizza led to a broomstick beating and gunfire.

Early Sunday morning, a Papa John’s pizza delivery driver attempted delivery to a home in the 5300 block of Janet Avenue.

But the home’s residents got into an argument with the driver, complaining that the pizza was cold, St. Louis County Police reported.

The female resident attacked the deliveryman with a broom handle, police said. He overpowered her and hit her back. And the male homeowner came out of the house with a rifle.

The driver fled, stopping his car a few blocks away to call police.

But before police arrived, the deliveryman saw a silver Pontiac drive up and stop about 50 feet behind him.

Then he heard a single gunshot, he told police.

The driver sped off again, but the Pontiac didn’t follow. The deliveryman, “showing no fear,” police said, pulled a U-turn and chased after the Pontiac.

The Pontiac then slowed, and fired another shot, police said.

The deliveryman reported no injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
