Fundraiser

Today, there will be a fundraiser for the Turkey Creek Community Club from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Plates cost $7 and can be picked up at the State Farmers Market from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Relay for Life

Several events will be held this weekend to benefit the Grady County Relay for Life.

Koyo Bearing will be hosting a yard sale behind O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Saturday from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Full Gospel Church will be hosting a yard sale and chicken pilau at the church from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and the Faith Christian Center will also be having yard sale  at the church from 7 a.m.-until.

All proceeds from these events will be Relay for LIfe in Grady County.

 

Homeless vets

The Grady County Veterans Express Bus will be providing free transportation to the Homeless Veterans Stand Down event at the North Florida Fairgrounds planned for Friday through Sunday.  This event is for veterans who are either homeless or facing homelessness and will provide free sleeping arrangements, multiple services and a care package to all veterans attending. The Veterans Express Bus will depart from the Walmart Parking lot in Cairo at 6:30 a.m. on Friday. For more information, call Denna Green-Corbett at 850-521-5767.

 

Survivors Dinner

There will be a special supper for cancer survivors as part of this year’s Relay for Life held on April 20 at 6 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo.  This year’s supper is sponsored by the Prince Family who will provide entertainment during the event. All survivors are invited to RSVP by calling Sharon Prince at 977-0951.

 

Reunion

The Cairo High School Class of 1949 is planning their 64th reunion on May 4 at Eastside Baptist Church at 6 p.m. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Call Carolyn Hopkins at 377-3931 for more information.

 

Invitation

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to attend the Administrative Professional’s Day on April 24 at noon at the Grady Cultural Center. The theme for this year’s event is “Run for the Roses” and will have a Kentucky Derby theme. The cost is $15. Call the chamber to RSVP at 377-3663.

 

Centennial

The Midway Baptist Church will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary on April 14 and invites all members, former members, former pastors and friends to join the celebration. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served after the service.  The church is located south of Cairo on Highway 93.

 

Bible study

A new Community Bible Study is being conductd on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Cloud & Son Funeral Home.

The classes are taught by the Rev. Dr. Bobby Powell, who earned a doctorate from the Bethany Theological Seminary in Dothan, Ala.

All classes are free and open to the public.

 

Volunteers sought

The South Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is i need of local volunteers.  If you would be interested in working in the local office or helping with local disasters like single family house fires, please call Wanda Purdy at 924-2026 or go to www.valdostaredcross.org and click the volunteer tab.
