THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville softball team finished their season on Tuesday afternoon with back-to-back losses to region foe Jeff Davis. The loss completed the Lady Yellowjackets sweep of Thomasville and left the Lady Bulldogs at .500 on the season. They finished 11-11 overall and 9-9 in region play, which is good for fourth in the region.
Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs gave Jeff Davis a run for their money in game one. Jeff Davis took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Thomasville stormed back with five runs in the back half of the opening frame. Thomasville was able to put runners on base, despite having only two hits in the game, by taking advantage of 12 walks and multiple errors by Jeff Davis in the game.
However, Jeff Davis was able to cool the Thomasville bats as their own heated up. They cut it to a one-run game after three innings and took the lead with a two-run fifth. It looked like Thomasville might give up the win in the seventh until Cecelia Myers scored on a single by Fallyn McDougald to tie it and send the game to extra innings.
Extras were not as kind to the Lady Bulldogs as they failed to match the Lady Yellowjackets two runs in the eighth and lost game one 8-6.
Game two was a rough way for Thomasville to end the season as Jeff Davis poured it on. A pair of four-run innings and another run tacked on in the fifth left the Lady Bulldogs down 9-1 and the game was called after just five complete innings.
Thomasville’s .500 record sees them finish fourth in the region ahead of Berrien, Worth County, and Fitzgerald.
