Don’t be a Christian gawker

Christians, your backseat driving needs to end immediately. You must grab the steering wheel if America is to avoid a fatal crash.

The nation, already a wreck in many regards, is in dire need of a spiritual revival that can be sparked at the ballot box. The prospects for our future would change in an instant if Christians voted with God’s interests in mind on Nov. 6.
Christians have the power to wield enormous influence everyday, but particularly on election day. Sadly, however, many of the 60 million Christians in the U.S. are content to complain about the nation’s deplorable state instead of doing something about it. Only about 50 percent of them, according to numerous sources, are even registered to vote.
On top of that, only half of registered Christians actually vote, meaning that 75 percent of God’s people are not taking advantage of one of America’s greatest privileges.
Considering that a swing of 5 million voters would have altered the outcome of the last few presidential elections, it is disturbing that so many Christians have opted out of the political process.
It has long been true that Christians hold the key to restoring America, especially those who have been out of the political loop. By seizing the last chance to register to vote today, they can return to the fray on Nov. 6.
Regardless of what ardent liberals believe, America was founded on Christian values. George Washington said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable.”

It was only after Christian values were replaced by secular ones that America slipped off the rails. That is why it is every Christian’s urgent duty to help their neighbors make godly decisions about government and to promote the efforts of those who are already doing it. We are expected to further His will.
Christians who exercise the authority granted to them by God were instrumental in the fight for civil liberties and the abolition of slavery. They can be just as forceful in the ongoing battle to preserve human life, the traditional view of the family and the need to get out of debt.
Christians have consistently failed in their responsibility to elect godly leaders in recent decades, allowing evil ones to take over. Remember Proverbs 29:2, which says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”
It is time to take a stand. God allowed America to become at great nation because we chose to follow Him. He will just as readily let it fade into oblivion if we maintain our current path.
I implore Christians not to be content to be a political passerby who gawks at the wreck America is becoming. Get out and do something, especially on Nov. 6.
