Brookwood inducts 42 students into the Antonio de Nebrija Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

THOMASVILLE- Brookwood School inducted forty-two students into the Antonio de Nebrija Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) — the Spanish Honor Society. The ceremony took place on Brookwood’s campus on Wednesday, October 23rd.

To be eligible for membership in the Spanish Honor Society, students must be actively enrolled in an upper-level Spanish class and have maintained a 90 percent grade point average in the study of Spanish for at least three semesters. Transfer students must have spent one full semester in the program at Brookwood to be eligible.

Inductees must hold an overall GPA of 85 percent or higher and must demonstrate character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service, and commitment to others.

This year’s inductees include seniors Owen Bodell and Kate von Hellens; juniors Brylee Bates, Avery Bentley, Maggie Brock, Mason Brunson, Sam Bryant, Harrison Chapura, Briggs Daniel, Addison Gamble, Pierce Garland, Audrey Harrison, Jackson Horne, Mason Howell, Henry Knox, Audrey Mizell, James Mizell, Eva Nicholson, Jarrett Parr, Halle Ramsey, Jack Spence, Will Stevens, Avery Tate, Keane Katherine West, Courtney Wolsfelt; and sophomores Austin Baker, Charles Ball, Emily Barrett, Ava Bodell, Reagan Burrus, Brooks Clay, Audrey Flowers, Spencer Jacobson, Brinson King, Brianna Lenz, Juliet Rhodes, Catherine Stewart, Emmett Street, Sara Cameron Sullivan, Kenji Sun, Wesley Warren, and Sam Yokley.

Kandra Williams, the Spanish Department Head and the society’s sponsor said, “My desire is for students to appreciate all that the Hispanic community has to offer. Students in the society will have the opportunity to use their language skills in real-life settings, especially in service to others, and to understand the value of speaking more than one language.”

Danielle Posey, the co-sponsor of the Spanish Honor Society added, “The Spanish Honor Society ceremony is a special moment; I take pride in watching the students be leaders within the society as they conduct the evening and in school as they demonstrate to their peers and to the community the importance of excelling in modern languages.”
