Graveside services for Thomas “Tom” Nick Allen, 79, of Cairo, Ga., are at 2 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo. The Rev. Henry Bass and the Rev. Tegler Greer will officiate. Pallbearers are Ken LeGette, Bob LeGette, Sam Carnline, Bobby Hopkins, Kevin Kopler and Bubba Brogden. Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Brown, Roy Jones, Charlie Hunter, Lumis Brown, Skeet Miller, Jim Ellis, Joe Kelly and Lee Gordan. Mr. Allen passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Grady General Hospital. Born on March 12, 1931, in Valdosta, Ga,, he was a son of the late Charlie Lewis Allen and Hettie Oakley Allen. He served his country in the National Guard. On Jan. 20, 1957, he married Mary Alderman Allen in Valdosta. He worked in the construction industry at Allen Industrial Contractors. Mr. Allen was a member of the Cairo Country Club, the Kiwanis Club and the Cairo First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alderman Allen of Cairo; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Jane Allen of Thomasville, Richard and Stella Allen of Cairo; grandchildren, Crighton Allen of Thomasville, Grace Allen osf Thomasville, Stuart Allen of Thomasville, Carson Allen of Cairo, Chandler Allen of Cairo; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Joanne Allen of Albany, Alton and Donna Allen of McDonough. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lewis Allen and Hattie Oakley Allen; his brother, Charles Allen; and his sister, Julia Story. Memorials can be made to Cairo First United Methodist Church, 318 S. Broad St., Cairo, Ga. 39828. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
