Guilty plea in slaying

MOULTRIE — A Thomasville man who entered a guilty plea in the September shooting death of a Moultrie man will be sentenced June 10 in Colquitt County Superior Court.

Richard Levon Revels Jr., 22, of 3224 Hall Road, Thomasville, pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Marquis Thornton.

Thornton, 32, of 510 First Ave. S.W., died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was shot around 11:53 p.m. Sept. 8 at his residence.

Gregory Lamont Denton, 31, of 218 S. Main St., Barwick, is scheduled to go on trial next week in the fatal shooting.

Revels was indicted on one count of malice murder, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault and possession by a first-offender probationer.

The voluntary manslaughter charge to which Revels pleaded was reduced from malice murder. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea arrangement.

Sentencing for Revels is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. June 10 at Colquitt County Justice Center. A pre-sentencing investigation will take place before the sentence is given.

In another guilty plea entered Friday, Tony Bernard Wilson pleaded guilty to attempted robbery with force in which the original charge was attempt to commit a felony.

He also is scheduled for sentencing on June 10.

Wilson, 19, of 607 Fifth Ave. S.W., was indicted on four counts of attempt to commit a felony, eight counts possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, four counts of aggravated assault, and criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark.

Wilson, Anthony Dewayne Downs, 21, of 525 Don Cutler Sr. Drive, Albany, and Armonti Kelaad Thompson, 18, of 1026 Second Ave. N.W., Moultrie, were accused in the Nov. 25 armed robbery of China Cafe restaurant, 801 First Ave. S.E.

Police said that the three men entered the restaurant at 9:22 p.m. through the back entrance. Once inside one of the men pulled a pistol and demanded money from employees.
