Mother Ethel Lee Porch
Services for Mother Ethel Lee Porch, 94, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she was a life-long member and served as Mother. The Rev. Ronald Brown and the Rev. James Hill, will officiate, and interment will be at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Thomasville. Pallbearers include family and friends. Mrs. Porch died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Brooks County Hospital. Born in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Amanda Filmore, and lived in Trenton, N.J. and Valdosta for 50 years prior to moving here, where she served as a cook. She was married to the Rev. Sir Walter Porch, who preceeded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Porch is survived by three daughters, Ramona Ramsby, Lavone Bowdry and Sandra Garland, all of Thomas County, and three sons, Jeffery Sutton of Thomas County, Dorsey Garland of Norfolk, Va. and Yancey Garland of Dodge County. Other survivors include grandson Charlie Ramsby; granddaughters Telesia Adkins and Yancia Brunner; nephews Allen Filmore and Timothy Hunter; beloved friend Danny Sutton, all of Thomas County; nephews John Filmore Jr. and Willie Joe Hunter, both of Atlanta; niece Arlene Johnson; nephews Early Lloyd, Robert Lloyd and Bruce Lloyd, all of Mariana, Fla.; step-son Gregory Mitchell of Norfolk, Va.; nephew Mellidge Hill of Thomasville; nephew Robert Hill of New York N.Y.; nephew James Hill of Albany; nieces Mary Lee Fleming of Haynes City, Fla. and Shelia Collier of Aberdeen, Md.; nephew Douglass Stout of Thomasville; niece Barbara Mitchell of Thomasville; nieces Connie Mitchell, Agatha Mitchell and Juanita Mitchell; nephews Mark Mitchell, Lee Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell and Anthony Mitchell all of Aberdeen, Md; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. There will be a family hour on Sunday at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The remains will be on view at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Dorothy (Dot) Ramey DeFreitas
Services for Dorothy (Dot) Ramey DeFreitas, of Thomasville are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at the Thomasville First Baptist Church Chapel. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. DeFreitas died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the Suites at Woodleaf. Born in Coolidge March 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late H.H. Parker and the late Adel Sandifer Parker. Mrs. DeFreitas was retired, having worked for Flowers Foods, Wildwood Apartments and Flournoy Corporation. She was a member of Thomasville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husbands John (Buddy) DeFreitas Jr. and William Morgan Ramey. Survivors include sons William Morgan Ramey Jr. and wife Cathi, John Lyndon Ramey and wife Marian, and Michael Parker Ramey; daughter Susan Ramey Wilson; grandchildren Lynn Ramey, Will Ramey, Bryan Ramey, Gretchen Ramey, Heather Wilson Gilmore, Katie Wilson, Michael Ramey and Morgan Ramey; sisters Ermaline P. Tucker and Bennie Helen Carroll; brother Aubrey Parker. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home. — Whiddon Shiver Funeral Home
