Johnnie Mae Dyches

Graveside services for Johnnie Mae Dyches, 94, Camilla, are at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at Union Hill Cemetery in Grady County, Ga. The Rev. Joe Beauchamp will officiate. Mrs. Dyches died Dec. 5 in Camilla. Born Sept. 15, 1907 in Camilla, Mitchell County, Ga., she was a daughter of John T. Dodson and Clara White. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Camilla. Survivors include a son, Wade E. Dyches Jr. of Cairo; daughters, Grace Thursby of Donalsonville, Margaret Blocker of Baconton, Christine Dyches of Leesburg, Costello Cook of Colquitt, Janie Johnson of Camilla; a sister, Vergie Poitivent of Bainbridge; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. — Timmons Funeral Home





Carl L. Lowery

Memorial services for Carl L. Lowery, 82, Gainesville formerly of Sky Valley, are at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 in the auditorium at Lanier Valley Estate. Mr. Lowery died Dec. 3. He was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Shanksville, Pa. , the son of the late William Welsh Lowry and Winnie Knepper Spangler Lowry. He graduated from Penn State University in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Campbell Soup Company for 34 years before retiring. He was an active member of The Chapel of Sky Valley where he served on the board, sang in the choir as well as helped to secure a full-time minister before moving to Gainesville and joining the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, gardener and enjoyed stone sculpturing. He is survived by his loving wife, Esther Powell Lowry of 24 years; sons, William H. Lowry and wife Dawn; Christopher Sanford Lowry and wife Wendy and David Lowry; daughters, Susan Blalock and husband Ricky, Theresa Bright and husband Bill, Debby Wheeler and husband Mickey; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray Spangler Lowry, Frank Edward Lowry, William Roland Lowry; and sister, Ethel Lowry Reese.
