THOMASVILLE – The Thomas County Central golf team scored a victory earlier this week over rival Bainbridge. The Yellow Jacket boys won 164-171 and the girls won 160-165.
“It’s always good to come out with a victory on both sides, the boys and girls,” said Central golf coach Kevin Esch. “We had a couple strong performances on both sides which helped us come out with a win. Definitely good to get a win this late in the season.”
The Yellow Jackets had several solid performers on the day. Wyatt Elkins and Lenin Ughetto scored a 40 while Mae Harrison and Sophie Graham scored a 52, leading the way for the girls.
This performance helps get the Jackets ready for the area tournament, which will take place at Southern Hills Country Club in Hawkinsville, Georgia on April 22.
“We’re going to have to play our best of the year on both the boy’s and girl’s sides to make it, but it’s just a one-day tournament so anything can happen,” Esch said about the area tournament.
Central has had a solid season, with good performances in tournaments and some good match wins.
“I think we’ve had a good season, match wise. We’ve won the majority of them and had a couple good performances in tournaments so far,” Esch said. “I think we’ve had two top fives on the boys side this year.”
Central golfers will be back on the course for the area tournament on April 22 in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
