MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The offense heated back up for the Thomas Night Hawks as they handled the Florida Memorial Lions on Saturday afternoon.
The game was a return to form for the offense as Keelin Coleman found Janae Scott on the first play of the drive for 22 yards, a couple of plays later Coleman found Maddie Hougland to get into the redzone, after a six-yard run from the freshman got them to the Lions 14 yardline she found Kiana Acol who bought the ball to the one-yard line. Finally, Coleman hit Hougland again for the touchdown and with a successful extra point attempt the Night Hawks were up 7-0.
Florida Memorial started off their drive with a couple of quick passes to get the first down, but the Thomas defense held strong and forced them to punt. The ensuing drive by the Night Hawks looked promising but Coleman was intercepted by Jada Grant which stopped the drive in its tracks. As the Lions began to drive down the field, the defense continued to hold them in check as they forced another punt from Florida Memorial.
The Night Hawk offense continued to pick up where they left off on the previous drive as Coleman found Scott again to get to the Lions 33-yardline, then a couple of plays later the freshman found Destiny Lockett for a 29-yard touchdown. The next couple of drives for both teams went nowhere as both teams went into the locker room.
The Lions started the second half with the ball and once again they struggled to get anything going as the defense continued to have its way with them. The defense continued to suffocate the Lions as the closest they got to scoring came in the fourth quarter as Florida Memorial got to the Night Hawk 29 before a turnover on downs drowned their chance to score. Thomas did put one more touchdown on the board as Neher found Nakerra Brown for a touchdown and converted the extra point attempt to make the final score 28-0
