THOMASVILLE- Hand-In-Hand Primary School has named Holli Rossi as its Teacher of the Year. Rossi, a kindergarten teacher, has dedicated her entire 13-year career to Hand-In-Hand, making a lasting impact on her students and colleagues.

Rossi was caught off guard when fellow teachers and administrators surprised her with the announcement in her classroom.

“First, I thanked God and hugged some of my favorite people around me!” Rossi said. “I felt humbled and honored to have been chosen by some of my fellow colleagues. There are many great teachers at our school.”

A proud graduate of the Thomas County School System, Rossi earned a golf scholarship to Thomas University, where she played for two years before transferring to Valdosta State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, along with master’s and specialist degrees in the same field. Additionally, she has earned endorsements in Teacher Leadership and Gifted Education.

For Rossi, teaching is more than just a profession—it’s a calling.

“I truly believe God has equipped me to guide and inspire students in ways that go beyond academics,” she said. “Each day is an opportunity to be a light, to encourage them, and to show His love, patience, and grace.”

Throughout her journey, Rossi has been inspired by many educators, including her high school psychology teacher, who played a key role in shaping her passion for education.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to use the gifts God has given me to impact students,” Rossi emphasized. “My goal is not only to impart knowledge but to invest in their lives, help them realize their potential, and remind them how deeply loved they are.”

Teaching kindergarten allows Rossi to lay the foundation for her students’ educational journeys. She embraces this responsibility by fostering a love for learning, instilling positive habits, and introducing values like kindness, respect, and responsibility.

“One of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher is seeing the growth and transformation in my students—both academically and personally,” she explained. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness them gain new skills, overcome challenges, and develop a sense of confidence in themselves. When a student who has struggled with a concept finally understands it, or when they show kindness and empathy toward others, it’s a moment of victory that feels deeply rewarding.”

Reflecting on her time in the classroom, Rossi cherishes both the joyful and profound moments she experiences daily.

“Kids can be so funny! One minute they’re quoting a movie line perfectly, and the next, they’re reenacting a scene from a movie or video that leaves everyone in fits of laughter,” she said.

Beyond the laughter, Rossi also recognizes the deeper impact of her role.

“Some children come to school because it’s the only place where they feel safe and loved, and as a teacher, offering that support is truly a privilege,” Rossi explained. “Years later, when they send a letter or video to let you know how much you impacted their life, it’s a reminder that the love, care, and attention you give to them goes far beyond the classroom. Knowing you made a real difference—that’s the kind of success that stays with you forever.”

Rossi believes that creating a strong classroom community is essential for student success.

“I truly believe that when students feel like they belong to a supportive, caring environment, they’re more willing to open up and ask for help,” she said. “I work hard to build relationships with my students by showing genuine interest in who they are, both inside and outside the classroom. I get to know their strengths, challenges, and what makes them unique, which helps me provide personalized support when they need it most.”

She also emphasizes the importance of building relationships beyond the classroom.

“Building strong relationships with families is just as important as supporting students in the classroom,” Rossi noted. “I stay connected with parents and guardians not just when there’s a problem, but also to celebrate progress and successes. That partnership creates a sense of trust, which is essential when a student is going through a tough time.”

By fostering a classroom family and working closely with parents, Rossi ensures her students receive the support they need to thrive. Her dedication, passion, and commitment to her students make her a deserving recipient of Hand-In-Hand Primary School’s Teacher of the Year award.
