THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville Bulldogs boys soccer team is on a tear as of late. With a 7-2 win over Valwood on Wedneday the Bulldogs added to their five game win streak and their overall record of 6-2.
Four of the Bulldogs last five wins have been shut outs. Thomasville has outscored their last five opponents 29-2 and have score six or more goals in four out of their last five as well. This includes two region wins over Worth County (7-0) and Bacon County (8-0).
“It’s a combination of the hard work starting with the start of pre-season and then you’re working on a system and they’re executing, coming out with confidence and playing really well,” said Bulldogs head soccer coach Robert Peterson. “They’ve been able to dominate some games and possesion and keep the ball and create lots of opportunities to score. It definitely builds confidence.”
Peterson attributed a lot of the Bulldogs success to the year-round hard work that his players put in.
“They put 12 months a year work in essentially, so now you’re starting to see the bennefit of that.”
While the success is certainly something to be celebrated, Peterson and the Bulldogs haven’t lost sight of what truly matters, region play. Thomasville has two region wins this season, at time of writing, over Worth County and Bacon County. However, the meat of their schedule is fast approaching. After a game agaisnt Brookwood, the Bulldogs will travel to region foes Jeff Davis and Brantley before returning home to face Berrien on Senior Night in their final region contest.
“Ultimately, it’s all about the next couple of weeks with the region games here,” Peterson said about region competition. “All of the wins leading up to this is great, but those are the ones that are going to matter. You have to be able to perform at a high level when it really matters.”
