THOMASVILLE – Thomasville picked up back-to-back wins for the girls and boys soccer teams as they took on Worth County in their first region contest of the season.

The girls opened the night with a game that was a little too close for comfort. After a scoreless first half, Thomasville found themselves up 2-1 with ten minutes to go after a goal by Kyley Peterson and an own goal forced by Meava Henderson. However, Brooklyn Youngblood, who scored the Lady Rams first goal, netted her second of the game to tie it at two with under ten minutes to go.

Not to be outdone, Sadie Kate Scarbrough sent the go-ahead goal screaming past the goalie, leading to a 3-2 Thomasville victory in their region opener.

“We did what we needed to to win. I think we are more than capable of beating that team by a lot more,” said Lucas Kimmel, the Lady Bulldogs head coach. “I think we made some simple mistakes to cost those goals and we just started really slow, we struggled to pass to feet, but once we started making the combinations better we started scoring goals in the second half and then just have to avoid those couple simple mistakes.”

“It shouldn’t have been that close of a game, but good teams find a way to win even when they’re not playing the best.”

The Lady Bulldogs now sit at 3-1 on the season.

The boys were hot from the start as Gio Ulloa netted the first of his three goals in the opening 20 minutes. Ulloa would go on to have a hat trick, while Davis Williams, Mathew Mullins, Farid Gonzalez, and Callaway Conklin all scored a goal in the game.

“I felt really good. We got better at what we’ve been working on,” said Thomasville boys head coach Robert Peterson. “Obviously we are able to put the ball in the back of the net, it’s a region win, so good all the way around.”

The 7-0 victory pushes the Bulldogs to an even 2-2 on the season with a win in the season opener over Valdosta and back-to-back losses to Cairo and Thomas County Central.
