THOMASVILLE- Thomas County Central’s young wrestling squad stood out at Saturday’s Region 2-5A tournament.
Ten of Central’s 12 wrestlers qualified for sectionals next week at Houston County High School. They included freshman Marques Peak Jr., who won region in the 106-pound weight class, and junior Kadrein Suckie, who won region in the 157-pound weight class.
“We had a few missed opportunities to push for first, but we can learn from those and correct those mistakes for next week,” Central coach Matt Tanner said. “We had multiple people score us a good bit of points that have struggled all season. It’s good to see it coming together towards the end of the season.
“Especially with only having 12 of 14 weight classes entered into the tournament, there was very low margin of error, so we had to get as many points and bonus points out of each of our guys. They competed hard for each other today.”
Central’s other finishers included:
Second-place finishers
Ean Oneal (120)
Damon Silvia (126)
Dean Rollins (144)
Third-place finishers
Carson Curry (132)
Onyx Louissaint (190)
Fourth-place finishers
