THOMASVILLE—The Covey Nest will soon be filled with eager viewers as it hosts its annual Covey Film Festival, beginning on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The festival, designed to educate, engage, and entertain, will premiere various films and shorts created by students and professional filmmakers.

Following tradition, opening night will be celebrated at Tall Timbers Research Station, a longtime partner of the Festival, where three films about nature will debut.

The first of these films, “Devouring Beauties,” was produced by locals Laura Albritton and Zickie Algrove through their company, Magic Kumquat Productions.

The following night, film enthusiasts can head downtown to the Covey Nest, located at 210 W. Jackson St. for the remaining films.

Several of the films up for viewing will focus on the world of fashion, including “Valentine: The Last Emperor,” showing on January 29, along with “Coco Chanel” and “Dior and I,” which will both be shown on February 1st.

The Covey Film Festival aims to screen films that typically cannot be seen elsewhere in the region.

“Some have been out a while; others are pre-relate, but all represent true excellence in filmmaking,” said Angela Shelley, Interim Executive Director of the Thomasville Community Resource Center.

Along with these one-of-a-kind screenings, Covey will be showing two family-oriented shows, “Inside Out 2” and “Madeline” on Saturday, January 25th, making the festival an event for all ages.

To continue providing an outlet for all ages, Covey has partnered with Landmarks and the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts to sponsor a competition for short films produced by local high school students. The winning film will then be screened during the festival.

Viewers can also look forward to the screening of shorts by FSU film students on Sunday, February 2nd.

“These up-and-coming filmmakers will impress the audience with their talent and innovation,” said Shelley.

All of the screenings will go toward a good cause, as the Covey Film Festival benefits the Thomasville Community Resource Center, a local nonprofit organization focusing on literacy and school readiness.
