Cairo airport terminal construction begins

Recently demolished, the Cairo Municipal Airport is being replaced with the help of the Georgia Department of Transportation, according to City Manager Julian Brown.
An old building, Brown said that the original terminal wasn’t falling apart, being in use until it’s demolition, but had it’s fair share of wear and tear.
“It had it’s wear and tear,” Brown said, “It was usable, but it needed a lot of attention, a lot of time.”
Rebuilding with help from a grant provided by GDOT, who are also involved in the construction, the city manager said that the new building would be similar to the old one in size and location.
“They are out there starting the new one,” Brown said in reference to the current construction. “I think it’s really going to be an asset.”
CobbCo Land Services have been hired through the city, not the GDOT grant, to perform the demolition and clearing of the land.
Brown said that, regardless of Cairo’s size, the terminal had a lot more traffic than one might initially think.
“The airport has more traffic than some might think,” he said.
The city manager added that the new airport terminal would include new gas tanks.
