Long Branch Baptist to celebrate anniversary
The Long Branch Baptist Church will be celebrating its 117th anniversary on Sunday, June 26 during the morning service at 11. Everyone in the community is invited to come join the celebration and bring your favorite dish for lunch which will be served after the morning service. The church is located across from Barber Park on Long Branch Road.
Grady General Hospital has new visitation, masking policy
Archbold Medical Center and Grady General Hospital officials have announced a new policy for visitation and masking as part of their COVID response. The hospitals will be assigning a visitation and masking response level that defines family and guest access and masking requirements that are determined by CDC guideline for healthcare settings, several local indicators and data from the CDC’s COVID-19 Community Levels that determine the prevalence of the virus in the community. Currently, the level in Grady County is low so visitors will have a choice to wear masks in public areas of the hospital while visiting.
Train project complete at history museum
The Grady County History Museum has announced that its long-awaited ‘train’ project has been completed and now open for the public to view. Among the many fun features of this new exhibit are the eight miniature trains that recreate the railroad journey from Cairo to Savannah and back again. The backdrops of the exhibits portray the panoramas between the towns and villages along the way and include a carnival, hobo village, a fishing camp, water tower and more. Everyone is invited to come see the new train display at the museum which is open Tuesday-Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Summer meal program underway
Grady County Schools and other locations will be offering its summer meal program from now through June 30 with breakfast available from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Northside Elementary, Cairo High School and Washington Middle School and lunch available from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northside Elementary, Cairo High School, Washington Middle School, the Roddenbery Memorial Library and Fresh Start Global Ministries. The free meals available all children ages 0-18.
Women to Women Prayer Line on Tuesdays
The Women to Women Prayer Line is held every Tuesday morning at 5 and everyone is invited to participate. First Lady Dorothy Olivia Wilson, president of Women to Women Retreat of Cairo, encourages all women to call in for prayer by dialing (515) 604-900 and using the code 927246#. Summer Reading Program activities this week
The Summer Reading Program continues this week at the Roddenbery Memorial with activities planned for children, teens and adults. On Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. will be Movie Day for all ages; Thursday, June 23 will be the annual Doll’s Tea Party at 11 a.m.; Friday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Mobile Sea Lab will be at the library; and on Monday, June 27 at 2 p.m., Deep STEAM for ages 6 and up. Shiloh MB Church reopens for worship
The Shiloh MB Church members have announced that they have reopened for in-person worship services on the third Sunday of each month with Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. and morning worship at 11:30. The Rev. Simon Simmons III, pastor, and the entire congregation invite all to attend.
