Twisters Gymnasts fly high at State Championships

Hard work and tough training came to a head this past weekend as Thomasville Twisters Gymnasts Anniston Brown and Cameron Treadon competed in the 2023 Level 6/8 Georgia State Championships in Cartersville, Georgia. Brown and Treadon train with YMCA gymnastics coach Kristen Morrison five days a week. Coach Morrison said that it really feels like all of that hard work is paying off.

“It’s really exciting to watch your gymnasts work so hard throughout the season and see your girls go to the state meet and do so well,” Morrison said. “But it’s an even better feeling to see your gymnast qualify for an even bigger meet like Regionals.”

That gymnast who qualified for Regionals is 14 -year-old Anniston Brown. Brown competed at level eight in the competition and medaled in three of her four events, as well as the all-around event. With such a fantastic performance, Brown has now qualified for the Regionals meet. Brown will be back in action later this month when she heads to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete at Regionals from April 28-30. Brown will be competing against the top gymnasts from all over the south east.

13-year-old Cameron Treadon also competed at the State Championships, at level six, and performed well. Treadon has battled her way back from an injury this season and, after qualifying for State, posted solid scores in all four of her events. Both Treadon and Brown hit on all of their routines, which Morrison said is a great achievement on its own.

“Cameron came back form an injury,” Morrison said. “Just for her to go and compete at the State meet and do well and hit all of her routines was an accomplishment this season.”
