Thanks to Mark Anderson for his letter

Dear Editor,

Mark Anderson’s letter criticizing area Republicans’ moves during the holidays and what happens when an election is “fixed” and no one cares, is on target. During the holidays, our GOP Senator Dean Burke announced that he is leaving office because Governor Kemp has appointed him to a high state job in Atlanta, requiring a special election to fill his seat. Then came a quick resignation by area GOP Rep. Sam Brown and his simultaneous filing to run for Burke’s job, which was obviously an inside GOP effort to keep the senate seat within their fold. Because of peculiar rules for special elections that give a much shorter time for qualifying and campaigning, it was easy to fool the public during the busy Christmas holidays; the GOP found it simple to accomplish this “behind-the-scenes” unscrupulous act of keeping a public office change from public view until the last minute. This is actually the way elections are stolen. If we care about open government, which the GOP apparently does not, let’s wake up and elect the best person, not our political party buddy.
