THOMASVILLE- On Tuesday, December 5, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) honored 12 graduating Radiologic Technology students during a pinning ceremony marking the completion of their program requirements.
The Radiologic Technology students receiving pins were Jennifer Alfaro, Secilia Gomez, Esperanza Gomez-Jimenez, Heather Kennedy, Sierra Nix and Peyton Pearson of Cairo, Taralyn Crozier of Camilla, Victoria Lynn Lambert of Donalsonville, Aniyah Bennett of Pelham, Ansley Stephens of Thomasville and Zebulon Davis and Megan Hartsfield of Whigham. In the coming weeks, the graduates will sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam, and pending passage, will be ready for careers as radiographers.
During each pinning ceremony, the program and their affiliate clinical sites recognize several students’ outstanding effort and achievement. This year, Peyton Pearson earned the Outstanding Clinical Student Award, Esperanza Gomez-Jimenez earned the Academic Achievement Award, and Zebulon Davis earned the Impact Award. The Outstanding Clinical Student Award and the Academic Award each recognize outstanding student achievement in their clinical and classroom settings. The Impact Award is given to the student who has made the most significant impact on the class throughout their time in the program. This person’s presence has had an effect on the class overall and the cohort would not have been the same without their presence.
“This class has been fantastic,” said Radiologic Technology Program Chair Tony Turpin. “They have worked hard and are now reaping the reward for that effort. We are excited that they have all secured job offers with local hospitals within our service region. It’s a testament to the work ethic that each of them has maintained. We expect great things from each of them and wish them nothing but success!”
The Radiologic Technology Program works closely with area hospital and clinics to give students a complete overview of the career that they may encounter upon graduation. Students enrolled in the Radiologic Technology program perform clinical duties two to three days per week at these partner sites throughout their tenure in the program.
The Radiologic Technology clinical affiliate sites for this graduating class were Archbold Medical Center, The Adrian and Jessie Archbold Ambulatory Care Center, Archbold Grady, Archbold Mitchell, Memorial Hospital and Manor, Radiology Associates of Tallahassee, and Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.
The Radiologic Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree Program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for positions in radiology departments and related businesses and industries. The Program emphasizes a combination of didactic and clinical instruction necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an associate of applied science degree, have the qualifications of a Radiographer, and are eligible to sit for a national certification examination for Radiographers. Following the completion of core requirements, this program can be completed in four semesters.
