THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s wrestling team had a successful weekend on the mats at the Perry Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets went toe-to-toe with four middle Georgia programs in Pool B on Friday and emerged victorious in all four matchups. Central defeated Veterans 48-24, Upson-Lee 42-27, Mary Persons 60-18 and West Laurens 48-36.
The Yellow Jackets competed individually on Saturday. Jaxon Ward and Dean Rollins finished in first place in their respective weight divisions, while Rodney Edwards, Mason Brown and Micah Wood placed second. Rylan Woodall and Logan Ward finished in fourth place.
“We are continuing to improve week to week. We are closer to having our lineup complete and people in the right weight classes,” Central coach Matt Tanner said. “We also have some young guys improving and scoring a lot of points for us. It is exciting to see them working hard, gaining confidence and producing for the team.”
The Yellow Jackets will next compete on Dec. 22-23 in New Orleans against some of the top wrestlers in the Southeast.
“It will be interesting to see how we stack up,” Tanner said.
