THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central traveled to Warner Robins to take on the Houston County Bears on Saturday afternoon. It was a struggle for the Yellow Jacket offense in the first half as they put up just seven points and took a 7-0 lead into half time.
Thankfully, the Central offense didn’t have to worry about the Bears as the Yellow Jackets defense was stout. Led by Caleb Anderson’s team high 13 total tackles, the defense held the Bears down and never let them up. Houston County quarterback Antwann Hill jr. had just 63 yards passing and was intercepted by both Jimmy Dawson and Dee Reddick. The Yellow Jackets defense also kept the Bears under 100 rushing yards and held them to an average of 3.2 yards per carry.
Central’s d-line was disruptive as they entered the Bears backfield with no problem. The Yellow Jackets finished the game with five tackles for a loss, eleven QB hurries and Cam Brooks recorded a sack bringing the sophomore’s season total to 4.5.
Houston County is the latest in the long line of Central’s shut out victims. The Yellow Jackets have held their last three opponents scoreless and have recorded four shut outs this season. In fact, the Yellow Jackets have given up just 47 points all year and have held every opponent under 20.
With only two more games on the schedule, Thomas County Central is looking for their second straight undefeated season. They will play two more home games, starting with Lee County at home this Friday. Lee could be Central’s toughest opponent yet as they will face the Trojans for the region championship. The Trojans are 7-1 and undefeated in the region. Their only loss this season came from Colquitt County and they are coming off a big 56-7 win over Northside. With the playoffs quickly approaching and a state championship dancing in the dreams of Yellow Jacket fans, this is the time for Thomas County Central to prove that they are the best 6A team in the state of Georgia.
