A component company of one of the world’s most celebrated dance companies, the 17-member American Ballet Theatre Studio Company seeks to engage the broadest possible audience by performing diverse works from classical, neoclassical and contemporary repertoire while developing the next generation of dancers, choreographers and audiences.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring such an acclaimed ballet company to our community,” said TEF Executive & Artistic Director Rick Ivey, “and to present such a diverse program of performances. And, since Thomasville is the first stop on their fall tour, TEF’s audience will be the first anywhere to see the world premiere of Jamar Roberts’ In The Face of Darkness.”
During their Thomasville engagement, ABT dancers and creative staff will lead a master class for senior company dancers of South Georgia Ballet and a workshop for SGB’s Step UP! program dancers, helping fulfill the educational component of Thomasville Entertainment Foundation’s nonprofit mission.
Ivey said the ABT Studio Company performance and related educational outreach activities were made possible in part by a generous grant of support from the Lewis Hall and Mildred Sasser Singletary Foundation, with additional assistance and in-kind support from South Georgia Ballet. There is no charge to any student participating in the workshop or master class. TEF has also made nearly 100 free Tickets for Teens available for the performance through local dance studios and through the dance programs in the Thomasville City and Thomas County schools. That free student ticket initiative is available for all TEF performances, thanks in part to an annual grant of support from the Thomasville Antiques Show Foundation and an anonymous gift to TEF’s Education Fund.
“Cultivating the next generation of performing arts and exposing local students to our world class performing artists and ensembles are key to our mission, and bringing classical ballet of this caliber to Thomasville allows us to do just that,” Ivey added.
Tickets are still available for the Tuesday performance at $15 for students and $40 for adults, and all seats are reserved. Purchases can be made by calling the TEF office at 229-226-7404 or online with a small processing fee at https://tefconcerts.com/tickets.
