CAIRO — The Syrupmakers secured yet another dominant victory over a region opponent as they scorched Westover in a 55-14 victory. It’s Cairo’s eighth straight win on the season and their third region win in as many games.
The Syrupmakers were led by senior KJ Spence in all three phases as he had the best game of his high school career. On offense, the Patriots didn’t stand a chance at slowing Spence down. On just 15 carries, Spence led all rushers 288 yards on the ground, including a 74 yard run to go along with four rushing touchdowns. That 288 yard performance is a school record. Cairo’s run game was unstoppable as their backs combined for over 400 yards. Freshman Bryian Duncan was the second leading rusher with 96 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
“We love him (Spence) and couldn’t be more proud of him,” said Cairo head coach David Coleman. “The offensive line did a phenomenal job and opened up some big lanes for him and he took advantage of it and had a great night.”
On defense, Spence delivered the Syrupmakers a serious spark with a 99 yard scoop and score. Spence also got to work with the special teams with 21 yards and two kick returns. It was simply pure domination by Cairo.
Cairo scored multiple times in the first three quarters and tacked on another touchdown for good measure in the fourth. They held Westover to just 12 points, allowing zero in the second and third quarters.
Quarterback Juderek Gee-simmons had limited production as the run game was cooking, but shined when he got the opportunity. Gee-simmons had three completions for 95 yards in the air and a touchdown to Corey Baker for the Syrupmakers third score of the game.
Cairo’s final regular season game will be their biggest of the year as they take on rival Bainbridge in an away game on November 3rd. This Cairo team has been truly dominant since their week one loss to Thomas County Central. Since week two, the Syrupmakers have outscored their opponents 350-89. Maxpreps has Cairo currently ranked number eight in Georgia 4A and is ranked 53 in the state.
