THOMASVILLE- The final day of early voting for the Municipal General/Special Election and SPLOST concludes on November 3, 2023, at the Thomas County Board of Elections office. Those hoping to vote early won’t have to wait in line as the early voting turnout has been extremely low, according to Frank Scoggins, Thomas County Elections Supervisor.
Scoggins said as of Monday, October 30, only 1,300 individuals out of the 33,000 registered to vote have exercised their right.

This election includes two seats for the City Council. Wanda Warren is running against Lucinda Brown for the City Council District 1, Post 1 seat, while Jay Flowers is running against Royal Baker for the City Council District 2, Post 1 seat.
Additionally, Stephan Thompson and Ryan Bradburn are running for the Thomasville City Schools Board At-Large seat, which is being vacated by Karen Kelso.
The SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) referendum is also on the ballot.
Scoggins said the individuals on the ballot will be running the community voters reside in and he highly encourages everyone to vote.
“I understand there are still some traditionalists who want to vote on Election Day, but in a presidential race, we usually see an 80% turnout with 65-70% of those people voting early,” Scoggins said.
Early voting is still open through Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. at the Elections Office, located at 1402 E. Jackson St.

Individuals looking to vote on Election Day must vote at their home precinct, as per the law. Scoggins said that those who do not know their precinct, are more than welcome to give the Elections office a call or visit them on Election Day, where they will have a kiosk dedicated to finding the polling locations of voters.
After 5 p.m., individuals who still want to vote, but do not have time to make it to their polling location may vote at any location, but will have to do so on a provisional ballot.
“I really encourage everyone to vote in their precinct though, because if you vote out of the precinct, what you want to vote on may not even be on that ballot,” Scoggins reminded. Those who still have questions about where to vote are encouraged to contact the Thomas County Board of Elections office at 229-225-4101.
