Brooks Co. (1-2)

THOMASVILLE — As Thomas County Central comes off their bye week, the Yellow Jackets are looking to start the season off with four wins in a row headed into their contest against Brooks County.

“We just want to be able to come back up and get it going again. I thought we were playing really good ball when we broke,” said head coach Justin Rogers. “I thought we had a really good game against Bainbridge. You take a bye week off, rest, recover mentally and physically, and then get the machine going again.”

Central has had an extremely successful season so far. All three phases have been clicking on all cylinders, though they have had a few miscues on special teams. In just three games, Central’s offense has scored 128 points while the defense has only allowed 21. They also had a shut out in week one against Cairo, who has recently proven they can score and score well.

Ranked number nine in the state of Georgia and second in 6A, the Yellow Jackets have now won 13 regular season games in a row and will look to make it 14 this Friday.

The special teams unit is something that Rogers and his staff took time to address during the bye week, going back to the fundamentals.

“During the bye week, what we did on special teams is we went back to our drill work. We have a bunch of drills that we like to use in our special teams,” Rogers said. “So, we focused on that, the fundamentals of recovering kicks. The fundamentals of being able to block in that open space.”

Brooks County shouldn’t present much of a problem for Central. They are arguably the Yellow Jackets easiest opponent of the season, though they are coming off a 49-14 victory over Mitchell County. One of their two losses on the season came by way of Thomasville in week one, who Central handled pretty easily in week two.

It will be no surprise if Thomas County Central walks away with a large margin of victory. That doesn’t mean, however, that the Yellow Jackets can overlook the Trojans. That is a good way to to get surprised and lose a game.

Instead, Central is expected to come out as equipped and prepared as any game. The offense will be looking to make a statement as will the defense and Central may be able to use this game to clean up their special teams in a game time situation.
