THOMASVILLE — Brookwood golfer JD Culbreth has committed to play golf for the University of Georgia. Culbreth has wanted to play golf for the Bulldogs for as long as he can remember and now, because of his stellar play in high school and his dedication to the sport, he will realize that dream.

“I’m super excited. Playing Georgia golf has probably been my dream my whole life,” Culbreth said. “I really do feel like it’s a perfect fit for me. I don’t think I ever will have any second guesses about going there. It sets me up for me to play the best golf and great academics so, I really couldn’t be happier.”

Culbreth stated that a large part of why he chose an SEC school is the level of competition he will have to face.

“I just know the level of competition in the SEC in general is going to be the best,” said Culbreth. “So, that’s what I wanted, and I knew that would make me the best golfer I could possibly be.”

Culbreth said that he feels a sense of relief now that his college decision is made. The recruitment process can be thrilling, but it can also be stressful and Culbreth is clearly happy with his decision.

With the realization of a college dream, Culbreth now has the opportunity to look to his professional dream and he couldn’t have chosen a better school for it. The University of Georgia has produced more PGA Tour players than any other university. Nine current PGA golfers hail from UGA and the Bulldogs even have a green jacket to their credit in the form of 2012 and 2014 Masters winner Bubba Watson.

“Obviously my dream is to make the PGA Tour. Statistics say that they got it done,” said Culbreth.
