TALLAHASSEE — As Cairo entered this football season, they seemed unpredictable. With a second year head coach who had plenty of time to prepare and a senior transfer at quarterback, the Syrupmakers were a hard team to read. However, Cairo earned its stamp of approval on Friday night with a 51-20 beating of Godby.

Cairo’s defense has been good this year, especially their secondary. However, the offense has struggled to move the ball at times. They found true and consistent success in week three against Thomasville and that clearly carried over to Friday night in their game against Godby. The Syrupmakers put up 23 first half points before a dominating third quarter, in which they outscored Godby 21-7.

Cairo’s rushing attack ran all over the field as the running back room combined for five touchdowns, including a 45 yard run from KJ Spence and a 48 yard run by Bryian Duncan.

Cairo’s defense was also on point against the Cougars. They held the Godby rushers to just 89 yards on the ground and recovered a pair of fumbles.

Cairo is now 3-1 and on a three game win streak, heading into the middle of the season. However, head coach David Coleman isn’t letting his team look past a single opponent.

“We just try to focus going 1-0 each week and try to keep that mindset as our weekly priority,” Coleman said.

Cairo will begin a four game home stretch this week as they welcome in the Pelham Hornets on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
