- MEETING THE MASCOTS: Kids had the chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog and Chase the Police Dog during the Safety Expo.
THOMASVILLE- The Thomasville Police Department, in partnership with a number of local agencies, hosted a safety expo known as Safe-T-Ville last Friday at Scott Elementary School. The expo was designed as a program for younger audiences to teach them about various safety-related issues such as, gun safety, traffic safety and electricity safety.
Agencies were set up in booths throughout the gym with each station covering one specific topic.
According to Community Relations Corporal Crystal Parker, the expo saw a number of kids, with a group of 15-20 children attend from the Boys and Girls Club.
“They stayed close to two houses and had fun going booth to booth learning about the different safety topics,” Parker said.
The various agencies the children got to speak with included Friends and Stars, Inc., Thomas County Fire Rescue, Thomas County E-911, The Treehouse Children’s Advocacy Center, Thomasville Fire Rescue, Georgia State Patrol, Thomasville PD, Keep Thomas County Beautiful, Thomasville Electric Department and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.
Parker said with the success of the safety expo, it is something TPD will definitely put on again. However, it may look a little different next time.
“I want to find a way to reach more kids,” she said. “We may look at trying to partner with the YMCA and host at their facility.”
Nothing is set in stone though and TPD is open to ideas and further partnerships.
