THOMASVILLE – On Thursday afternoon, the entryway of the Thomas County Probate Court was packed full of people eager to show their appreciation for Probate Judge Vickie Burnette.
For decades Burnette has served the Thomas County community, showing a true passion for helping others. A bevy of people showed up to show their gratitude for her service, many presenting her with a plaque for her service.
RJ Hurn, CEO of Georgia Pines, presented Burnette with a gift for her “unwavering” service to the mental health community.
“She has set the bar high for any other judge that I have worked for. She’s been a strong advocate for mental health services in this county, she’s brought innovative programs,” Hurn said. “She’s brought compassion to anyone who needed mental health services.”
State Representative Darlene Taylor was also in attendance thanking Burnette for her service as Probate Judge.
Multiple judges from other counties, including Probate Judge Josh Suggs of Miller County, also attended. Judge Suggs spoke at length about Judge Burnette’s impact across the state of Georgia.
Addressing the crowd of people, Judge Burnette said, “I have gotten so much love and support from everybody here. It’s just been a rewarding time. I have enjoyed being a Probate Judge. I think I will not miss the job as much as I will miss all of you.”
When asked what the highlight of her career was, Burnette echoed the comments of so many in attendance saying, “Helping people who were in a bad situation.”
Burnette did assure everyone that she would not be bored in retirement saying, “I will stay busy.” She spoke of going on mission trips, traveling, babysitting, and “whatever I want to do.”
