THOMASVILLE — Thomas County commissioners have cleared the way for the creation of an active adult community of Patterson Still Road.

Commissioners have approved rezoning 44 acres on Patterson Still from R1 to R4 conservation subdivision development, which will allow for the development of single-family detached homes.

“This is a concept I have been looking forward to doing for a long time,” said developer Thomas Asbury Jr.

Asbury said he tried to find a suitable property in the Tallahassee, Florida, area but was unable to do so. The 44 acres on Patterson Still Road became available a few months ago.

“This is it. I think this is the kind of spot where it needs to be,” he said.

Asbury said he saw the need for such a development. He also said he met with property neighbors to address their concerns.

“I’m very much looking forward to it,” Asbury told commissioners about the development.

The plans call for a cluster development with reduced lot sizes. The community will be for adults 55 and older.

Fifty percent of the land will be placed in conservation, meaning it cannot be developed. There also will be deed restrictions placed on the property.
