Stringfellow’s state championship paces YMCA swimmers

The Thomasville YMCA swim team competed in the GRPA Class B state meet, held July 16-17 in Fort Oglethorpe. 

Eight of the 14 swimmers qualified in the top eight to advance from the preliminaries to the finals, and Lewis Stringfellow won the state championship in the boys 15-18 50-yard breaststroke. He also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard individual medley.

Nick Pierce had two second-place finishes, in the 11-12 boys 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, and was fourth in the 50-yard butterfly.

Laci Owens was second in the 15-18 girls 50-yard butterfly fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.

Other top finishers were: 

• Juliet Best, eighth in the 7-8 girls 25-yard breaststroke

• Jada Mathis, fifth in the 7-8 girls 25-yard butterfly

• Alex Pierce, seventh in the 7-8 boys 25-yard butterfly and eighth in the 50-yard freestyle

• Chris Pierce, third in the 13-14 boys 100-yard individual medley and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle

• Makenna Ponder, fourth in the 15-18 girls 100-yard freestyle, fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke

Also competing for the Thomasville YMCA were Ruby Connell, Lindsay Hinson, Caroline Knight, Samantha Knight, Cooper Simmons and Maddux Simmons.
