Officials report no major storm damage

THOMASVILLE — Officials are reporting that there was no major storm damage caused Wednesday by Hurricane Elsa as it made its way through South Georgia. 

Chris Jones,Thomas County fire chief and Emergency Management director, said that based on the storm track and windspeed given by the National Weather Service, he wasn’t expecting much storm damage but thought more trees would be downed.

“We didn’t expect a lot of damage from the storm, but we did expect to have a lot of trees down throughout the county,” he said. “As it turned out, we only had one tree down in the southern part of the county.”

The fallen tree was reported south of Boston and has since been cleared from roadways. 

Hurricane Elsa has caused one reported death in Florida and damaged a Georgia navy base, leaving 10 injured, according to the Associated Press.
