Archbold Memorial Hospital is preparing to offer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for kids ages 5 to 11 years old. The health system will provide a one-time clinic Saturday, November 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Williams Auditorium at Archbold Memorial Hospital. No appointment is necessary. The clinic will run in partnership with pediatric providers across the service area.

Pfizer’s pediatric COVID vaccine is authorized for kids as a two-dose shot, given three weeks apart. The dose for children ages 5 to 11 years old is one-third of the dosage given to teens and adults.

In clinical trials, vaccination was nearly 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 among younger children. Vaccine side effects were mild and temporary. The most common side effect was a sore arm.

The vaccine distribution to children ages 5 to 11 follows the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).
