AMERICUS — The Brookwood Warriors made it back-to-back region championships.

And with dramatic flair.

Rodge Waldrop hit Strong Beverly with a touchdown pass with less than a minute to go, and the Warriors knocked off Southland 16-15 Friday night.

The win gave the Warriors a 3-0 mark in GISA Region AAA-3 and the region title. 

It was also Brookwood’s fifth straight victory after losing six in a row to start the 2021 season.

With the win, the Warriors claimed the No. 6 seed in the Class AAA state playoffs and earned a first-round bye. They will open the postseason November 19 at Westfield. 

The winner will meet the winner of the Pinewood Christian Academy vs. Southland-Valwood winner matchup. 

Brookwood cashed in a Raiders turnover to go up 6-0, and a third quarter field goals stretched the lead to 9-0. 

The Raiders, however, took a 15-9 lead in the fourth quarter.
